Mid-Autumn Festival 2022: The Best Mooncakes In Hong Kong

You mightn't believe it, but the time has come for the annual onslaught of mooncakes in Hong Kong. And while we all welcome one of the city's biggest festivals that brings us together for family reunions and feasts, it can be somewhat challenging to decide which mooncakes to try or gift. From chocolate and tea-infused egg custard mooncakes to beefy or durian variations and more, here is our pick of the best mooncakes to order this year.

Helmed by Tracy Tsang, former pastry chef at Landmark Mandarin Oriental and the Michelin-starred Italian restaurant Otto e Mezzo Bombana, Valerie Pastry has made a name for itself among locals since its opening in 2014 for its artisanal pastries made with quality ingredients and refined recipe.

For this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, the bakery has teamed up with local designer Fay Sze to launch a limited-edition gift set that’s perfect for gifting and sharing with loved ones. Inside the beautiful box, which features a design depicting Hong Kong’s skyline at night, you’ll find a set of nine handcrafted mooncakes in three delectable flavours: lava custard, Uji matcha custard and earl grey custard.

For those with a traditional palate, the bakery also offers a decent selection of classic options including white lotus seed paste and red bean paste mooncakes with egg yolks.
